2)  Corrosion of the thin metal parts inside a competitor's filter can cause the filter to bypass, and send dirty fuel directly to the pump and nozzle instead of doing the job you paid for it to do. As internal metal parts start to corrode, the thin lower metal end cap on the loose filter element element begins to weaken. The spring below the element begins to push up through the end cap. When the element drops sufficiently, the top end cap pulls away from the seal washer above it, and dirty fuel bypasses the element and goes to the pump and nozzle unfiltered.
